PROGRAM NOTE
The Illusion of Stasis is a work for two-channel fixed media with a total duration of 76 minutes. Its musical material is derived from segments of the The Complexity of Distance, a 58-minute work for solo electric guitar that the composer created for Mike Scheidt, founder of the legendary doom metal band YOB. Through digital processing, musical fragments are digitally slowed to 33 times their original lengths, revealing granular micro-structures contained within the complex timbres of distortion and feedback. The title alludes to the YOB's 2004 album The Illusion of Motion.
