PROGRAM NOTE
Spin — scored for flute, violin, cello, and percussion — was composed in 1999 during the composer’s PhD studies at Rutgers University. The work shows the influence of Milton Babbitt and Charles Wuorinen, who were both members of Romig’s dissertation committee. The original version of Spin, premiered in 1999 by The Society for Chromatic Art with the composer conducting, calls for a percussion part comprising both vibraphone and marimba. In 2009, the Cadillac Moon Ensemble commissioned a vibraphone-only version. The work lasts approximately sixteen minutes.
